BROKEN BOW – It was a busy agenda for the Broken Bow Public School Board when they met in regular session Monday night, March 21.
The meeting started off with an executive session where the Board discussed a possible land purchase. The Board eventually voted to purchase a piece of land from Mike Evans on the south end of the football field.
Principal contracts and administrator salaries were approved, in which Rusty Kluender, Kim Jonas and Ryan Hogue will receive a $3,000 raise, with Superintendent Tom Bailey receiving a $3,000 raise plus an additional five days off.
The classified salary schedule for 2016-2017 was approved, marking a three percent raise for faculty. Other approved items include the comprehensive projects for 2016-2017, the revised facilities strategic plan, the ESU 10 special education contract for the Sandhills Educational Services Cooperative and the revised Policy 1002 District Annual Report.
The Board voted to accept the resignation of two teachers, Veronica Nihsen (6th grade) and Denise Kaelin (7-12 art), while approving the hiring of Suzanne Wilson, who will be the new 7-12 science teacher and is moving to Broken Bow from Lincoln North Star.
Lastly, beginning with the 2016-2017 school year, the Board voted to start charging for preschool. It will be $100 per month for students that do not qualify for free or reduced assistance, $50 for reduced, and there will be no charge for those that qualify for free preschool.
The school board will next meet on April 18.
