ANSLEY – In high school basketball heard on KBEAR Thursday night, Jan. 21, Ansley-Litchfield hosted South Loup in a girls and boys varsity doubleheader. The girls’ game was a back-and-forth battle that saw several lead changes throughout. South Loup held a 21-19 advantage at halftime, but the Spartans took a 32-30 lead at the end of the third quarter. Ansley-Litchfield was only able to add four points in the fourth quarter, and South Loup hits key free throws to win 40-35. Shaelynn Laible led the Bobcats with 11 points, while Falan Ryan scored 11 for Ansley-Litchfield. South Loup is now 7-7 after the win, while Ansley-Litchfield is 10-6.
The boys game was evenly matched until the very end. The score was tied 29-29 at the half, and South Loup led 42-37 heading into the fourth. Ansley-Litchfield outscored the Bobcats in the quarter, and were within one point late in the quarter, but again, clutch free throw shooting helped the Bobcats prevail 62-59. Jack Rush and Cade Connell combined for 50 of South Loup’s 62 points, with Rush scoring 30 and Connell 20. Landon Rohde had 24 points to lead Ansley-Litchfield, with Brady Rohde adding 12 and Chris Paitz scoring 10. South Loup is now 11-2 on the season and Ansley-Litchfield is 8-7.
